Is a firm memory foam mattress suitable for me?

The mattress’s firm tension and memory foam composition will determine whether this mattress type is the best fit for you.

Firm tension

Firm mattresses are best suited for front and back sleepers. The firm mattress surface allows for even weight distribution and promotes healthy spinal support while sleeping in these positions. For those who prefer to sleep on their side, we advise a softer mattress that has the capability to provide soft and gentle support to the hip and shoulder. If you’re reading this and consider yourself to be a combination sleeper, consider a medium firm memory foam mattress. This mattress offers great versatility and accommodates side, front and back sleepers.

Memory foam composition

The other important consideration is memory foam and its suitability. Memory foam provides superb body-cradling support and allows you to sink into a wonderful slumber night after night. As pressure is applied to the mattress’s surface, the memory foam adapts to the body’s contours and provides a fantastic sensation.

However, memory foam mattresses are sometimes recognised for their heat retention properties and could, therefore, be unsuitable for anyone who sleeps hot. If this is the case, try a cooling alternative such as a gel foam or latex mattress.

What size mattress should I consider?

When you’re shopping for a new mattress, size is arguably the most important consideration. The size of your room will likely go a long way to determining which size bed you opt for. For smaller or standard sized rooms, a firm memory foam double mattress is ideally suited. In contrast, if you have the luxury of space to play with, consider a king or super king size firm memory foam mattress and reap the benefits of a spacious bed.

Finally, for those who sleep alone, a small single, single, or small double mattress may offer all the space you require. If you’re unsure whether your preferred choice will fit your bedroom, try measuring your room’s available space to help you make an informed decision.
