This week is Zero Waste Week. Launched back in 2008, Zero Waste Week was developed with the intention of raising awareness of the zero waste philosophy and the impact that creating waste has on the environment, animals and us as human beings.
This may be the first time you’ve heard of the term “zero-waste” or you could be familiar with it but unaware of what it actually means. Zero waste is simply a title; it doesn’t have to mean giving up all kinds of plastic and getting rid of all disposables straight away. A zero-waste lifestyle can be whatever works best for you in terms of reducing your waste and consuming less. Whether you are aware of your environmental impact or not, there are plenty of small changes you can make to your everyday life that you won’t even notice after time. Even small changes like using a reusable drinks bottle over buying bottled water can make a massive difference and will prevent excess plastic from ending up in oceans and landfills.
So what does this have to do with my sleep? More specifically, how can a zero-waste lifestyle benefit me and my sleep?
The good news is everyone can get involved on a small scale. Here at Mattressman, we are passionate about adopting as much of a zero-waste policy as possible. We instituted a local recycling service in which we collect our customers’ mattresses and bed frames for a small fee, deconstruct them and then send each part off for recycling.
We hope this week inspires you to do more zero waste living, and at the very least, even if you just swap from plastic bags to cotton totes, you can sleep secure in the knowledge that you are helping the environment in a big way.
