If you read our ultimate guide to Hypnos mattresses blog or have purchased a Hypnos mattress before, you’ll be in the know about all of Hypnos’ amazing work. In fact, such is their impact across the country, not just crafting quality mattresses; we thought it was only right to outline the amazing initiatives that set Hypnos apart from most.
A cornerstone of Hypnos’ principles is its use of responsibly sourced materials. Choose any mattress from Hypnos’ wonderful collection, and it’s sure to feature responsibly sourced wool and cotton. Hypnos prides itself on using organic, natural, and sustainable materials and actively avoids using synthetic, chemical-based foams or memory foams in its mattresses. This leads us nicely to our next point.
As we referred to above, Hypnos are keen to ensure all of the materials used in their mattresses are sustainably and responsibly sourced and a large part of achieving this is by tracing these materials back to their origins. With this in mind, in 2019, Hypnos partnered with Red Tractor Assured Farms in order to source completely traceable and certified British Wool. By collaborating with these farmers, Hypnos are able to pay a fair price for the use of their materials and, in turn, help them invest in projects and schemes that play a positive part in the environment.
Even more impressively, Hypnos was the first ever brand to introduce certified wool to the globally recognised Responsible Wool Standard British farms.
Similar to the Red Tractor initiative, the cotton featured in Hypnos mattresses is sourced from CottonConnect, whilst Hypnos also works with the Better Cotton Initiative to source cotton fibres for fabrics. Therefore, by purchasing a Hypnos mattress, you’re able to play your part in supporting the Better Cotton farmers who respect workers’ rights and wellbeings and care for the environment. If there’s ever a stat to demonstrate Hypnos’ commitment to sustainability, it’s that they’ve been a carbon-neutral business for over a decade. In short, this means Hypnos offsets all its carbon emissions by reducing or compensating an equivalent amount of carbon, resulting in a net-zero carbon footprint.
In another industry-first from Hypnos, they’ve developed clever packaging that is entirely recyclable and eco-friendly. Hypnos explain how ‘At the heart of the packaging is sugar cane, a renewable and carbon dioxide-depleting resource. Sugar cane ethanol is combined with recycled plastic, helping those who use it to massively reduce their carbon footprint. The use of ethanol, a bi-product of sugar cane production and recycled plastics that form a green polyethylene, means the creation is carbon neutral and 100% recyclable as well.
From schools across the UK to international forests, Hypnos is responsible for planting over 8,000 trees to support environmental sustainability.
Hyopnos has teamed up with the Chiltern Rangers to create what they describe as a ‘wild approach’. The aim is to encourage wildlife by introducing woodpiles, bat, and birdboxes. Additionally, Hypnos has transformed the Chiltern Rangers’ business front garden into a nature corridor with wildflowers.
When you purchase a Hypnos mattress from Mattressman, you can rely on a state-of-the-art mattress at an affordable price and sleep at night knowing you’ve bought into a sustainable and ethical-driven brand.
