It’s a special time for everyone at Mattressman, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary and what a journey it’s been. From humble beginnings in the Norfolk market town of North Walsham, to becoming the UK’s destination retailer for mattresses and bed frames. There’s a real sense of pride and excitement in the air. 

What better way to mark this milestone than by unveiling our beautiful new branding. The time has come to retire our superhero mascot and launch a visual identity which represents Mattressman twenty years on. 

Dive deep into our blog and reminisce as we turn the clock back to 2004 and remember some big moments that followed. 

2004: The year of Mattressman

The poignant light-bulb moment that changed everything. Managing Director Andrew Kerry envisaged a world where mattresses could be bought online and delivered the next day.  For its time, this was a revolutionary concept! 

Andrew’s passion for programming, combined with his wealth of sales experience, soon became a match made in heaven as mattresses started flying off the online shelves.

2005: The first store

Our first store opened in Andrew’s hometown of North Walsham. With few mattresses and brands available to choose from, it was a far cry from where we are today,

2006 – We welcome Snuggle Beds

2006 was the year of the exclusive brand Snuggle Beds, which offered beautiful bed frames and comfy mattresses at appealing price points. Snuggle Beds remains a popular choice today.

2011- The British Bed Company is introduced 

Designed and manufactured in Britain, with a focus on premium natural fillings, the emergence of the British Bed Company was a significant move for Mattressman. To this day, you can rely on the British Bed Company for premium and affordable mattresses, headboards and divan bases. 

2019 – The arrival of Arthur Sleep

One of the most significant strategic moves in the company’s tenure, in 2019 we rolled out another exclusive brand, Arthur Sleep. 

2024 – Vispring is on board

Arguably the most luxurious collection of mattresses, bed frames and headboards available, we feel incredibly proud to have launched Vispring in our Norwich store. Pop in store today and explore our wonderful collection of premium and luxurious sleeping solutions. 

Don’t just take our word for it though

Some poignant accolades we are especially proud of during the last two decades include the Sunday Times Fast Track Award in 2009 and the E-Commerce Initiative Award in 2011.

The new branding:

2024 has been a record-breaking year so far for Mattressman in many ways.  We are super proud to unveil our new branding to mark our 20th anniversary and celebrate all we have achieved. In collaboration with the leading design agency The Click, we have refined our brand values of affordable and quality sleep for everyone and brought this vision to life through an identity that truly reflects our experience, values, and vision. We wave goodbye to the iconic superhero character who has led us to where we are today and prepare for the next part of our journey.

Our commitment to social responsibility 

We are proud to partner with Furnishing Futures to provide new beds and mattresses to women and children fleeing domestic violence.  We’re proud to support charitable causes that positively impact our community and beyond.

In 2023, we partnered with Ecologi, a climate action group, to play our part in a greener planet Earth. For every mattress sold, a tree is planted to reduce carbon emissions and tackle the climate crisis. To date, more than 84,000 trees have been planted, outlining the initiative’s success.
