Who are Vispring?
Vispring’s origins can be traced back to 1901 when John Nolon and Frederick James incorporated the Marshall Sanitary Mattress Company as the base for James’ handcrafted and revolutionary mattress.
As the years went on, Vispring ventured into new territory and experimented with premium fillings such as horsehair, silk, cashmere, and similar materials. Today, Vispring is committed to acquiring the world’s finest mattress fillings and materials, all within close proximity of their Devon workshop.

A host of accolades and accreditations reinforce Vispring’s stature as experts within the sleep space. For instance, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, issued in 2012, outlined their expertise. Vispring is also proud to supply some of the leading hotel brands across the world with their bespoke, handcrafted mattresses. In fact, Vispring mattresses were featured in the cabins of the world’s most famous ships, including the Titanic and Olympic.

The finest natural materials
A key indication of any premium mattress is the inclusion of natural fillings; however, that doesn’t tell half the story. The nature of these fillings is what makes a Vispring mattress unique in design, comfort, and support.
Depending on which mattress you settle on, you can expect the luxurious comfort of Shetland wool, horsehair, and either a blend of real Shetland wool and cotton or hand-teased horsetail blended with real Shetland wool. These fillings allow for enhanced comfort and regulate temperature, ensuring a great night’s rest regardless of the season.
Every filling is dealt with by hand and laid over the honeycombed pocket springs to provide a soft, breathable, hypoallergenic, and fully biodegradable sleeping solution.
The meticulous care and attention to detail are consistent throughout the manufacturing process. Unlike mass-produced mattresses, Vispring’s iconic side-stitching is done completely by hand. Up to six rows are carefully sewn with 100% natural twine, providing thousands of contact points between the outer shell and honeycomb spring unit.
Similarly, Vispring tuft every mattress by hand. These tufts are evenly distributed across the mattress’s surface and help to ensure the fillings remain firmly in place. Such is the confidence in their mattress; you can rely on a 30-year manufacturer’s guarantee for complete peace of mind.
Pocket sprung excellence
Pocket sprung support systems like you’ve never seen before, reimagine comfort and support with a Vispring mattress.
Depending on which mattress you opt for, you can expect either one, two or three rows of honeycomb nested Calico pocketed springs. Each spring features within a cotton calico pocket and reacts individually to body movements for tailored support and superb pressure relief. The pocket springs are cleverly displayed in a honeycomb formation, allowing the individual springs to compress and expand in line with the body. Therefore, you can rely on head-to-toe support throughout the night.

Divan beds
Vispring’s bespoke collection of divan beds is like no other, thanks to the inclusion of pocket springs within the base. Whereas most divan beds have bases similar to standard bed frames, Vispring focuses more on comfort and luxurious style.
Similar to their mattresses, all Vispring divan bases feature hand-nested calico pocket springs, meaning you can rely on both the mattress and bed base for targeted support and pressure relief. Regarding aesthetics, we’re confident the divans will provide the all-important wow factor. This is courtesy of the solid timber frame made up of FSC-certified and other controlled materials and glorious fabric finishes. Depending on which divan you opt for, the cover is comprised of the finest natural materials, such as softly and heavily needled British fleece wool, Real Shetland wool, and Shetland wool blended with cashmere. The beauty of a divan bed is that you have the option to customise your bed with your preferred colour and headboard style.
